Why do I need to run imsinit.sh or imsinit.csh to run IMSpost 7.1 on Unix?

CATEGORY: INSTALLATION
TYPE: UNIX
IMS VERSION: 7.1
PLATFORM: ALL

The installation procedure tells you to execute one of the scripts:
imsinit.sh or imsinit.csh depending on your user's shell setting.

Although not mandatory, it provides the following benefits:

This script will initialize the XENVIRONMENT variable to allow the resource file (XRESOURCES) to be read before running any IMSPOST program. This will allow a consistent and customizable look and feel

It defines the shortcuts to run the various IMSPOST programs (such as pexec, px, post, etc.), as well as add your current location and the IMSDIR_POST_INI directory to your path, so that the IMSPOST programs can be launched from anywhere on your system.

It also provides an easy way to select the language you wish to use to run IMSpost, by defining a variable IMSLANG.
